Big Sur Food and Wine Festival!
The Bakery is proud to be a part of the inaugural Big Sur Food and Wine Festival, taking place november 6th and 7th, and we are hosting two of California’s leading wineries: Justin and Pisoni, and we’re looking forward to two amazing evenings!
Friday November 6th: Justin Winery – 7:00 pm
Owners Justin and Debby Baldwin will be joining us this evening, and all over Big Sur for the weekend, so come and meet them and get a taste of the Central Coast!
Justin Winery recently wowed the wine world, and for good reason – they have made consistently great wines and always at a most
reasonable price point.
Justin Winery was featured amongst eight wines in a blind tasting at the Santa Fe Wine and Chile Fiesta – the 2005 Throwdown. This matched four Bordeaux (Ch. Grand-Puy-Lacoste/Pauillac, Ch. Fleur de la Fonplegade/St. Emilion, Ch. Lascombes/Margaux and Ch. Clos de la Marquis/Saint-Julien) against four California wineries ( Mondavi Reserve, Beaulieu GDLT, Heitz and Justin ISOSCELES.
The 2005 was purported to be one of the greatest vintages – even Robert Parker hailed it as potentially one of the finest crops perhaps in the last five decades, especially the Margaux wines (“Meanwhile, I thought the wines of the Margaux appellation were the finest I have ever tasted in my 28 years of assessing Bordeaux vintages in the early stages of development”) And as for California, it wasn’t a bad vintage either! P{articularly napa had a very fine growing season, and the wines from this vintage will hold up really well over the years. So – a perfect match-up between the old world and our new world!
Moderated by two Master Sommeliers – Tim Gaiser and Joe Spellman, both from the Court of Master Sommeliers, and with a knowledgeable group of attendees, Justin was the winner overall! So, join us for dinner and see why their wines merit such attention.
Saturday November 7th: Gary Pisoni: 7:30 pm
Gary Pisoni is renowned throughout the world of Pinot Noir, and his irreverence, outrageousness, and yet deep sincerity are reflected in his extraordinary wines. Come and have a wild evening with us and Gary as we explore the World of Gary! Go straight back over the mountains facing the Bakery, and you’ll hit the Santa Lucia Highlands, now regarded as one of the foremost Pinot growing areas anywhere. Here is where Gary first planted his grapes (You’ll no doubt hear THAT story during the evening, if not, just ask), and the rest is history. Now wine makers come from all over, almost begging for juice to create their own version of Pisoni. Some have have made great wines, some mediocre, but there’s really nothing a Garys’!
We welcome the return of our dear and good friend, who is featured in our Book, and know that you’ll be in for the most unique evening of the weekend!
